Netflix has reportedly ordered a sequel to ‘Bright’ with Will Smith already signed on to star

Bright

David Ayer’s new Netflix film Bright doesn’t hit the streaming service until Friday, but, according to a recent report from Bloomberg, the company has already ordered a sequel with Will Smith signed on to reprise his role as Ward, a human cop living in an alternate present-day filled with all types of fairy-tale-like creatures.

In the report, Bloomberg refers to Bright as “the company’s first attempt at a big-budget Hollywood production,” while also nothing that the film serves as a bit of a “warning shot to studios and theater owners Netflix is targeting a big chunk of the $38.6 billion global box office.”

Netflix lifted the review embargo for Bright earlier this evening and, so far, the early word on the film is not great—it currently has a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, if the aforementioned report is accurate, the streaming giant is obviously quite pleased with how the finished product turned out, so much so that they want to turn Bright into an entire franchise.

Bright was written by Chronicle scribe Max Landis and features an impressive ensemble that also includes Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Enrique Murciano, Jay Hernandez, Andrea Navedo, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz, Margaret Cho, Brad William Henke, Dawn Oliveri, and Kenneth Choi.

We’ll keep you posted on any further developments that come across our desk.

Alicia Vikander fights to survive a deadly mission in an action-packed new trailer for ‘Tomb Raider’

Published

It’s no secret that the marketing campaign for the upcoming Tomb Raider adaptation starring Alicia Vikander got off to a very poor start. In addition to releasing a pretty underwhelming first trailer that failed to capture the excitement of many, including fans of the video games series, Warner Bros. also issued a rather poorly Photoshopped one-sheet for the film that people had a field day with over on Twitter.

That being said, the latest trailer for Tomb Raider dropped this morning and, while I’m still not entirely sold on this movie quite yet, our latest look at this action-packed adventure from director Roar Uthaug is a huge improvement over the first trailer and delivers plenty of great new footage.

As per the film’s official synopsis, Tomb Raider follows Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who suddenly vanishes while exploring a fabled tomb on a mythical island somewhere off the coast of Japan. Refusing to believe that her father is dead, Lara leaves everything she knows behind and sets out on a mission to find out the truth behind her father’s disappearance once and for all.

Tomb Raider also stars Dominic West, Walton Gogins, Daniel Wu, and Kristin Scott Thomas, and will open in theaters in just two months time on March 16. You can check out the newly released trailer above.

Here’s your first look at Zac Efron as Ted Bundy in the biopic ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile’

Zac Efron Extremely Wicked

Zac Efron took to Twitter yesterday to share with his 15.8 million followers a black-and-white behind the scenes photo from the set of director Joe Berlinger’s upcoming film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.  That’s quite the title, right? It’s pretty suiting for a biopic about notorious serial killer Ted Bundy, though.

“Meet Ted,” wrote in his tweet, which we’ve embedded for you below. The resemblance between Efron and Bundy is uncanny, to say the least, and it should be interesting to see Efron take a turn away from his typical comedic fare like Baywatch and into something so chilling and unsettling like Extremely Wicked.

Extremely Wicked, which is described as being in the vein of Steven Spielberg’s 2002 crime-comedy Catch Me if You Can, is told through the perspective of Bundy’s longtime girlfriend, Liz, who, for years, denied any accusations of wrongdoing against Bundy, before eventually turning him into authorities. However, it isn’t long before Bundy pulls off a daring escape while in custody.

Written by Michael Werwie, Extremely Wicked also stars Lily Collins, John Malkovich, Jeffrey Donovan, and Grace Victoria Cox. The upcoming thriller doesn’t have a release date set quite yet, but it shouldn’t be too long before we see this thing finally hit the big screen. What do you think of Efron in the role of Bundy? Mister Rogers

Ahead of its world premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival this Friday, a new clip highlighting the magic behind Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood from Morgan Neville’s upcoming documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? has been released.

“The Fred Rogers I discovered making this film is at once comfortably familiar and completely surprising. I believe Mister Rogers is the kind of voice we need to hear right now,” Neville said back in November when Focus Features acquired distribution rights to the documentary.

According to the official synopsis, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is described as an “emotional and moving film that takes us beyond the zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.”

As someone who grew up watching Mister Rogers as a child, it’s so great to see an Oscar-winning filmmaker like Neville bring his story to the big screen at a time when we need it most. If you’re at Sundance this week, be sure to check out Won’t You Be My Neighbor? on Friday. Otherwise, the film will open in theaters on June 8.
