20th Century Fox has released the highly anticipated first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming drama The Post. The film follows the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post’s Katharine Graham (Meryl Streep) and Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks) as they race to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. presidents.

According to a recent report from IndieWire, Spielberg recently finished putting the final touches on The Post and will complete the final sound mix with composer John Williams’ score next week. The studio is expected to begin screening the film for press no later than the end of the month in order to meet voting deadlines for many of the critics’ groups.

Written by Liz Hannah and Josh Singer, the star-studded cast of The Post also features Bradley Whitford, Carrie Coon, Tracy Letts, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bob Odenkirk, Alison Brie, Zach Woods, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, and Jesse Plemons. Spielberg produced the film along with Amy Pascal and Kristie Macosko Krieger.

The Post will open in theaters on December 22, 2017. What did you think of the first trailer for Spielberg’s latest film? Will it truly dominate the forthcoming awards season? Let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment down below.

Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams solve a murder mystery in the first ‘Game Night’ trailer

Published

on

The first trailer for New Line’s action-comedy Game Night starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams has arrived and, while the trailer may have shown one too many spoilers over the course of its two-minute and thirty-second runtime, this looks like one stupid comedy we can get behind.

Game Night follows Max and Annie, whose weekly couples game night gets taken to a whole new level when Max’s brother Brooks arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. When Brooks gets kidnapped, though, the players think it’s all part of the game, but they soon realize that this “game” is not what it seems to be.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who co-wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming, directed Game Night from a script written by Mark Perez. The film features a star-studded cast that also includes Billy Magnussen, Sharon Hogan, Lamorne Morris, Kylie Bunbury, Jesse Plemons, Danny Huston, Michael C. Hall, and Kyle Chandler.

We’ll find out if Bateman and McAdams are able to crack the case when Game Night opens in theaters on March 2, 2018.

Annapurna mounts awards campaign for Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘Detroit’ with powerful new trailer

Published

on

Kathryn Bigelow’s dramatic-thriller Detroit flew under the radar when it first opened in theaters back in August despite being a timely look at the growing political and social unrest that led to the 1967 Detroit riots. However, in hopes of having better luck the second time around, Annapurna Pictures is looking to give Detroit a limited theatrical re-release that will begin on December 1.

According to Deadline, the Detroit re-release will take place in 20-25 screens in select markets such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Palm Springs, Maui, and Aspen. Given how weirdly unpredictable this year’s awards season seems, a “For Your Consideration” campaign for Detroit may very well work to help build voter enthusiasm around the film.

“This movie creates empathy that can spark dialogue that will, hopefully, lead to healing and change. This country needs that now more than ever,” Annapurna Pictures president Mark Weinstock told Deadline in a statement. “The events in Charlottesville, Virginia, happened after our movie came out. The world has changed since August; the mood is different. The film is not only important – it’s even more relevant. People really consider this movie an emotional experience.”

On Saturday, the studio also debuted a powerful new trailer for Detroit and it offers what is perhaps our best look at Bigelow’s new film which stars John Boyega, Anthony Mackie, Jon Krasinski, Will Poulter, Algee Smith, Jason Mitchell, Hannah Murray, and Kaitlyn Denver. You can check out the trailer above.

James Franco wants people to take his vision seriously in new ‘The Disaster Artist’ trailer

Published

on

With just one more month to go until James Franco’s critically acclaimed The Disaster Artist opens in theaters, A24 has released an excellent new trailer for the upcoming Tommy Wiseau biopic starring James and Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Ari Graynor, Alison Brie, Jacki Weaver, and Josh Hutcherson.

Based on Greg Sestero’s best-selling tell-all about the making of the cult-classic disasterpiece The Room, the film tells the true story of how Wiseau, a Hollywood outsider, pursued his dreams against insurmountable odds to create what went on to become one of the most well-known, bizarre midnight movies of all time.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, Wiseau said that, even though he believes Sestero’s book is “only 40 percent true,” he gives The Disaster Artist a 99.9 percent approval rating because he thinks the lighting in the beginning of the movie is “a little off.”

The Disaster Artist has seen plenty of success since it first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in March as a work-in-progress screening and will certainly see plenty more going forward in the ongoing awards season race. The film opens in theaters on December 1.
