DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox have unveiled the first trailer for The Boss Baby in celebration of National Boss’s Day and, boy, does this thing look interesting.
Directed by Tom McGrath (Madagascar) from a screenplay written by Michael McCullers (based on the award-winning picture book by Marla Frazee), the animated feature boasts a voice cast which includes Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, and Miles Bakshi.
The premise is, well, quite simple: It’s a universal story about how a new baby’s arrival (who wears a suit, walks around with a little tiny briefcase, and has the voice of 58-year-old Baldwin) impacts a family, told from the point of view of a 7-year-old, somewhat delightfully, unreliable narrator named Tim. It appears to be a broadly appealing original comedy for all ages and the gag seems to be pretty funny and cute, but will it hold up for an entire movie?
“Kids, when they get a baby brother, either flip out or totally embrace it. If you watch YouTube, mostly they flip out,” McGrath told USA TODAY. “They fear all the love for them will be taken away. We hung our hat around that idea.”
The Boss Baby will hit theaters on March 31, 2017.
