Will Smith and Joel Egerton embark on one heck of an adventure in the new ‘Bright’ trailer

Published

on

Netflix has released the long-awaited second trailer for Bright, the latest big-budget effort from Suicide Squad director David Ayer which carries a hefty $90 million price tag. The film was written by Chronicle scribe Max Landis and stars Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, and Ike Barinholtz.

Bright is set in what is described as an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been co-existing since the beginning of time. The film follows two cops from very different backgrounds, Ward (Smith), and Jakoby (Edgerton), as they embark on a routine patrol night and encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it.

The newest trailer for Bright comes on the heels of Netflix’s unprecedented announcement that they plan on releasing around 80 original films in 2018 as opposed to the 50 that they will have released by the end of the current year. To put this into perspective, there were just 93 total wide releases in 2016, so we can only imagine what kind of tricks Netflix has tucked up their sleeve.

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos believes that, with the release of Bright, “people will start seeing the potential for this original movie initiative, that it could be done on the enormous scale we have on the television side.” One release you can expect from Netflix next year is Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, which is being produced for more than $100 million.

Bright will premiere on Netflix on December 22, 2017.

Liam Neeson’s daily commute home turns deadly in a new trailer for ‘The Commuter’

Published

on

Lionsgate has released an action-packed new trailer for Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Commuter starring Liam Neeson, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, and Jonathan Banks. The upcoming film marks the fourth collaboration between Collet-Serra and Neeson, who previously worked together on their typical action-thriller fares such as Unknown, Non-Stop, and Run All Night.

Neeson’s characters always seem to find themselves in the worst of situations and, unfortunately for Michael, an ordinary businessman on his daily commute home, he is no different from the rest of them. When Michael crosses paths with a mysterious woman named Joanna (Farmiga), his train ride becomes anything but routine when he realizes a deadly plan is unfolding and he is unwittingly caught up in a criminal conspiracy that bears life and death consequences.

Following remarks Neeson made at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, it was rumored that The Commuter would be the 65-year-old actor’s final action movie, though he later clarified his statement and said that he will be “doing action movies until they bury me in the ground” and that he is “unretired” from the genre.

The Commuter is scheduled to be released on January 12, 2017.

Warner Bros. unveiled the first trailer for 12 Strong: The Declassified True Story of the Horse Soldiers this morning. The film, which stars Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Peña, and Trevante Rhodes, tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11 to take down the Taliban.

“It’s a fascinating story. These guys went in with the strong possibility that they would not be coming back,” 12 Strong producer Jerry Bruckheimer told USA Today in an exclusive interview earlier this week. “They had to go through these mountain passes the only way they could do it, on horses.”

Directed by Nicolai Fuglsig, 12 Strong is based on Doug Stanton’s best-selling non-fiction book Horse Soldiers and also stars Geoff Stults, Austin Hebert, Elsa Pataky, William Fichtner, Jack Kesy, Laith Nakli, Fahim Fazli, Yousef Azami, and Said Taghmaoui, and will open in theaters on January 19, 2018.
