Nick Robinson struggles with coming-out in the very sweet first trailer for ‘Love, Simon’

20th Century Fox has released the long-awaited first trailer for Greg Berlanti’s coming-out teen dramedy Love, Simon starring Nick Robinson, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Jorge Lendeborg, Miles Heizer, Logan Miller, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel, and Tony Hale.

Based on Becky Albertalli’s acclaimed novel of the same name, Love, Simon follows Simon Spier, a 17-year-old high school student who has yet to tell his family or friends that he’s gay and doesn’t know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online. As you could imagine, resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying, and life-changing for the angsty teen.

“I just saw the best movie of my entire life. I’m sobbing. I can’t wait for you guys to see it,” Albertalli wrote on Twitter after watching an early cut of Love, Simon earlier this year. “It’s funny and relevant and timeless and charming and honest and painful and so romantic,” adding that there is indeed kissing in the film and it is “not half-assed.”

Love, Simon was adapted for the screen by This Is Us writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger and was produced by Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen. The film will open in theaters nationwide next year on March 16.

The first ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ trailer teases an action-packed dinosaur rescue mission

Published

on

Life finds a way! Following a plethora of teasers and behind the scenes footage this past week, Universal debuted the first trailer for their highly anticipated sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Cast and crew preached during production that this installment of the Jurassic franchise would feature more suspense, dinosaurs and practical effects than any of its predecessors—and they really were not kidding.

In the new trailer, we are first greeted by Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) in a desolate bar as they become reacquainted. It is revealed that Isla Sorna and all the prehistoric creatures that inhabit the once thriving island are in peril as volcanic activity threatens their extinction once again. Claire urges Owen to accompany her on a mission to evacuate the island of the dinosaurs. (What could go wrong?)

This is the only true dialogue we get from the trailer that reveals any sort of plot details. What follows is a showcase of colossal-sized action and suspense; explosions echo across the island landscape, characters new and old navigate through scenes of destruction, and, of course, plenty of dinosaur action.

As promised, we are shown an incredible amount of dinosaur footage with species we are familiar with as well as some new to the franchise. The infamous Velociraptor, Blue, makes her return as she reunites with Owen. Many new dinosaur antagonists make their on-screen debut, including Baryonyx, which director J.A. Bayona first teased a while back. The most notable and cheer-worthy moment from the trailer comes when Pratt and crew come face to face with another new species known as Carnotaurus. Just as the beast takes a lunge at our heroes, the Tyrannosaurus from the previous films towers in and snaps the creatures neck, letting out a victorious roar. Oh, and did we mention we get our first look at Jeff Goldblum reprising his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm?

And, if you’re one of the many who were worried about the trailer revealing perhaps a little too much, have no fear. Executive producer Colin Trevorrow took to Twitter to assure fans that everything in the Fallen Kingdom trailer “is from the first 57 minutes” of the film. All that action in just the first half of the film? As a massive fan of the Jurassic franchise, I am thrilled to see what Bayona has in store for this installment.

If this trailer is any indication of what’s to come we are in for perhaps the grittiest Jurassic film yet. At the very least, with Fallen Kingdom, we’re assured visually breathtaking sequences of both CGI and practical effects as they appear to be a dramatic upgrade from Jurassic World, while it also appears Bayona is bringing some of his horror roots back to his latest project.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom also stars Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, and James Cromwell, and will open in theaters on June 22, 2018.

The first ‘Lean on Pete’ trailer showcases Charlie Plummer’s outstanding breakout performance

Published

on

A24 has released the first trailer for Andrew Haigh’s upcoming drama Lean on Pete starring Charlie Plummer, Chloë Sevigny, Travis Fimmel, and Steve Buscemi. The film premiered to rave reviews at the Venice Film Festival in August before making the rounds at Telluride and Toronto the following month.

Based on the beloved novel of the same name by Willy Vlautin, Lean on Pete is described as a deeply moving story about love, loneliness, family, and friendship, told through the unique prism of one boy’s connection to a very special racehorse named Pete.

“A searching, violently unsentimental coming-of-age drama about all the things we have to offer one another, Andrew Haigh’s Lean on Pete isn’t the kind of heartwarming indie that its opening moments might lead you to expect,” David Ehrlich wrote in his review of the film for IndieWire. Jessica Kiang of ThePlaylist writes that Lean on Pete is “particularly refreshing” for those of who would typically shudder at the term “horse movie.”

Lean on Pete is scheduled to be released on March 30, 2018. You can check out a new poster for the film as well below.

Amazon Studios has released a new trailer for Lynne Ramsay’s critically acclaimed thriller You Were Never Really Here starring Joaquin Phoenix, Judith Roberts, Ekaterina Samsonov, John Doman, Alex Manette, Dante Pereira-Olsen, and Alessandro Nivola.

You Were Never Really Here follows a Joe (Phoenix), a traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, who tracks down missing girls to make a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe’s nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening.

The film had its world premiere at the 70th Festival de Cannes earlier this year where it picked up two awards including Best Screenplay for Ramsay and Best Actor for Phoenix. A24 was originally expected to acquire U.S. rights to You Were Never Really Here, but Amazon upped their offer last-minute and ultimately won the rights in a $3.5 million deal last year shortly before the film went into production.

You Were Never Really Here is scheduled to be released on April 6, 2018. Be sure to check out the new trailer above and let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment below.
